I finally got around to watching the Conan O'Brien interview on 60 Minutes last night. Yes, my DVR is set to record series on 60 Minutes. Mostly because it makes me look like an intellectual when people come over, and can pretend to be randomly flashing through my cue. "Oh, ...Read More...

Looks like Harvey and Bob are getting Miramax back--no idea why they sold it in the first place., to be honest. From the Hollywood Reporter:
It looks as if the Weinsteins have managed to fashion a winning bid in the Miramax auction and will take back operating control of the company they founded ...Read More...

As expected, MGM was put on the block, and no one was really that willing to pony up a billion dollars, or whatever they were asking, to buy the company's assets. While there were some low ball offers, essentially, most of the action for the company is now coming in the form of financing to ...Read More...

For years ABC Family has languished in developmentally challenged hell. There's just no way around it. They have. Talk to anyone who deals with the network at all, and you'll hear the same thing repeated over and over and over. I have talked to those people. Agents. Managers. ...Read More...

Rumors are swirling that Sony wants Ivan Reitman off of Ghostbusters 3, so they can hire a younger, hipper director to shepherd the "reboot" of the franchise. This after Reitman convinced his buddies, Bill Murray, Harold Ramos, Dan Aykroyd, and Sigourney Weaver to come back for ...Read More...

Ratings for this year's Oscars were outstanding, and up substantially over previous years. Why? Well, it certainly wasn't because of the 15 minute long Best Actress and Best Actor preludes, or the giant wall of lamp shades. That's for sure. All in all, I thought this year's ...Read More...

It's hard to believe that people are actually complaining about this, but it seems a few are bent out of shape over John Hughes getting his own Oscar tribute. Many believe that his name and face should be mentioned right along with all of the other fallen on Academy night. I disagree.
Greatness ...Read More...

I was excited for the Super Bowl. For one, my childhood team, the Colts, were in the big game. Two, they were playing the Saints, pretty much everyone else's team, since New Orleans was devastated by Katrina, and the city really needed something positive. It's really a win, win ...Read More...

Word on the street is that when NBC/Uni transitions to Comcast, Zucker will be jettisoned, and someone new (who does not suck the life out of the network like a black hole) will take his place. Feel free to dance naked in the street. Even people who aren't writers understand how badly ...Read More...

So, Miramax finally closed it's doors. Most of us saw this coming years ago. Once Harvey and Bob left, it was curtains for the company. The success was never replicated by either party, frankly, as the Weinstein Company has by and large been a bust as well. Maybe the best thing ...Read More...

Don't know if you've heard, but Netflix is killing it right now. Their earnings are through the roof, they're growing, and the future looks very bright. Why? Because 48% of their success is derived from the streaming of content. That's right. You want to watch a movie right ...Read More...

Generally, I prefer the Globes to the Academy Awards. It is unique because the best from film and TV are in a room together for one night. The award means something to the nominees, and carries some clout around town. "Golden Globe nominee" sounds a hell of a ...Read More...

Leno and Conan. Man. What a cluster%$#@. If a network executive ever wanted to look completely and utterly useless, this is it. I have never seen anything like this in fifteen years. Not even close. Just when you thought NBC had hit rock bottom in hiring, then firing, ...Read More...

I have gotten some e-mails from a few people asking me what they should do if they are not making money from writing (but used to), or can't find work. One guy was an assistant in television and no longer has a job. He's struggling to find something.
First, I suggest you look for ...Read More...

Here's my New Year's gift to you. It's a term I have been using for years, and it always impresses the hell out of people for some reason. I even know execs who have stolen the term from me, and use it now. Who cares! The best thing about it all? It's not complete crap. ...Read More...

A number of readers have contacted me asking for my prognostication for the entertainment business in 2010. One added, "please try not to be so negative." First of all, I'm not a negative person. There's no way in hell someone could remain in this business for fifteen years, ...Read More...

Lots of people hate Meryl Streep. She gets nominated for every role she plays. She seems kinda bitchy. For an older woman, she's nowhere near as hot as Helen Mirren (who is, though?). She's usually in some weird/quirky movies. A walk through her IMDB page is quite interesting. ...Read More...

James Cameron is notorious for being a gigantic a-hole. Let's just get that out of the way. He's a demanding perfectionist who pushes his crew to the point of mutiny. He's prickly on a personal level. But, deep down, you know James Cameron has a poster of kittens ...Read More...

I was watching Jeff Zucker's appearance on CNBC today (I watched it online, so I'm not sure what day he appeared on CNBC). I came to the conclusion that Zucker has zero clue about what the future holds for media. All he kept saying was that NBC/Universal had changed drastically, and ...Read More...

So, Comcast is buying NBC. Wow. The people who can't even give me a reliable interenet connection are going to be running an already confused network. This should just be ducky. Sort of like Afghanistan trying to invade Iraq. I don't know how this will all turn out, ...Read More...
